SHOOTING rockets up into the sky and climbing on board an army helicopter was all part of a week at school for New Pasture Lane pupils.
The school held a special science week focusing on the subject of flight and among the many activities enjoyed by the children was a visit from an army Lynx helicopter and conducting experiments with a science expert ‘James Boffin’.
Linda Mason, business manager at New Pasture Lane School, explains: “Every term we try and hold a special learning week and this term we decided to study flight.
“Our year six teacher contacted the Yorkshire army air corps and they agreed to fly across in their helicopter, which was fantastic.
“It was very impressive and the children loved it.
“They got a tour of the inside and saw all the controls, it was very exciting for them.”
The children also enjoyed conducting a variety of experiments with Mr Boffin which culminated in them launching a rocket from the school field which reached a height of around 100ft.
