Strike action at Bridlington hospital is taking place following an industrial ballot over the employer’s refusal to implement a one per cent cost of living pay increase as recommended by the Pay Review Body.
Members of Unite and other health unions working in the NHS in England are staging a four-hour strike from 7:00 am to 11:00 am.
Unite representative, Franco Villani of the York Foundation Trust, said: “We are here today in solidarity to get the government to listen to the Pay Review Body and get the NHS workers nationally the pay rise they deserve.”
“The wages of NHS workers have fallen by up to 15 per cent in real terms since the coalition came to power in 2010.
“I am an NHS worker. I am proud of the work that I do; the latest pay ‘insult’ has left me feeling undervalued and overworked.”
The strike is be coupled with action short of a strike from 12am on Monday 13 October to 9 November.
