Village communities are being urged to support the cottage hospital at Hornsea in a bid to ensure its future.
June Barton, Publicity Officer, Hornsea Cottage Hospital League of Friends, said: “ Having fought hard to secure a hospital for Hornsea, we must now make sure it is used to its full capacity; to this end the League of Friends has recently purchased a nasopharyngoscope and a 5 Step floor mounted microscope for the Ear, Nose and Throat clinic which is run by Mr Tariq Khan and held once a month on a Thursday. In order to enhance this clinic to include audiology, the League has agreed to purchase extra equipment including a sound proof booth. This will enable the ENT clinic to be held more often and should cut down on unnecessary journeys to Hull or Castle Hill for those with hearing problems.
These pieces of equipment are expensive and whilst we are constantly raising money to support the hospital, GP’s surgery and the community needs we would appreciate any help you can give.
June said: ”We have spent to date £13,555.00 and need another £14,500.00 to secure the audiology for the patients of Hornsea and District. Our next Coffee Morning is Saturday 7 June 10.00am to 12 noon in the Parish Hall in Newbegin which also happens to be Membership Day when we invite people to join or renew their membership. Your support is a precious commodity, so please help us to help you.
The League of Friends will also have a stall at the Hornsea Local Market on Saturday 26 July when members of the committee will be very pleased to see you and answer any questions you may have regarding the services available at the hospital or any aspect of our work.”
