THE Santa’s Grotto at a Bridlington garden centre made a record amount for local causes.

Eastfield Garden Centre on Easton Road broke all previous records by raising £2,130 for North Wolds Lions charities.

Eastfield owners Brian, Joan and Michael Stephenson donated thousands of presents for Santa to give children visiting the grotto, raised the cash from people who made a contribution to see Santa.

“The grotto fundraising this year is more than double the amount of £938 which we raised last year,” said Brian Stephenson.

Olwyn Morley of North Wolds Lions said: “We are extremely grateful to Eastfield Garden Centre for the support they have given us over the years and are delighted that so much has been raised this year.”

The money will be distributed in the area to finance Lions’ activities, among them arranging coach tours for the over 65s, supporting school trips, and providing wheelchairs for people in need.
