BRIDLINGTON gathered to remember the victims of the Great Gale at Priory Church on Sunday.
Members and friends of the RNLI attended Sunday’s service to commemorate the Bridlington Great Gale disaster of February 10, 1871, when raging seas caused 30 ships to be wrecked, including the Bridlington Lifeboat, and the loss of 70 lives.
The Bridlington Lifeboat crew remembered those who were lost in one of the east coast’s worst tragedies.
The members of the lifeboat crew, and all those who were lost, are remembered on a monument at the Priory Chruch. After the service, Bridlington’s lifeboat crew laid a wreath paid tribute to their valiant but not forgotten predecessors.
