New for 2017, the welly walk will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1.

Bob Taylor, fund-raising chairman for Bridlington RNLI, said: “The event promises to be a fun occasion that the whole family can enjoy.

“Yellow wellington boots are worn by our lifeboat crews and it’s hoped that all who walk will don their favourite pair in support of our volunteer crews.

“Both of Bridlington RNLI’s lifeboats will be on show, with an opportunity to meet some of the crew.

“We hope to see as many people as possible coming along to enjoy our lifesaving strolls and I’d recommend that everyone get their tickets well in advance.”

There will be two walks - the first group will start an 8.5km walk from near Bridlington’s new lifeboat station on the south promenade at 10.30am.

They will be heading north to Sewerby and back.

The second walk sets off at 11am by a separate stroll to the south of the Spa and back.

The event will kick off a whole month of local fund-raising to tie in with the RNLI’s annual national Mayday campaign.

Tickets cost £15 for a family ticket, for two adults and two children, and single tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children.

They can be booked in advance by visiting www.rnli.org/maydayww
