THE North Wolds Lions will be keeping their fingers crossed that the launch of Eastfield Garden Centre’s recent Christmas activities will lead to a big boost for their fund raising.

Eastfield Garden Centre owners Brian, Joan and Michael Stephenson are supporting the Lions by donating thousands of presents for Santa to give to children who visited the garden centre’s grotto during a recent Christmas launch evening, and also during each weekend in December until Christmas.

All the money raised from people who make a contribution to see Santa will be donated to the Lions to distribute to local causes.

Joan Stephenson said: “When we began our Christmas fund-raising for the Lions in 2009 we raised £600.

“The following year we raised £938 and last year we more than doubled that amount by raising £2,130.

“We appreciate that times are difficult but we hope that people will rally round once again and support the Lions.”

North Wolds Lions representative Olwyn Morley said: “Last year Eastfield Garden Centre’s Christmas fund-raising for The Lions generated an amazing £2,130 and this has gone a long way in helping us to continue to support local causes throughout the year.”

The Christmas fund-raising will help to finance activities such as arranging coach tours for the over 65s, supporting school trips, and providing wheelchairs for people in need.

Mr Morley continued: “We are very grateful to Eastfield Garden Centre for the support they have given us over the years and we are delighted that they have chosen us again for their Christmas fund raising.”
