A fish and chip shop are enjoying recognition after being named among the top 50 in the UK.

Pride of Bridlington, in Quay Road, was counted with the cream of Britain’s fish and chip shops in a league table compiled by Fry - an industry trade magazine.

The shop, which is staffed by a team of four, is run by Veronica Pugh, 53 and her partner Trevor Newbould, 55.

Veronica said: “It is wonderful news and it has certainly given our staff a buzz. They are all very proud of themselves.

“Everybody goes to work to earn money but if someone turns round and says well done that always makes it worthwhile.

“We sell a top product and we have some nice people working for us.”

The pair have run Pride of Bridlington for three years, after moving to the resort from York.

They entered the competition in Fry magazine, and a mystery shopper visited them between April and June this year to test the standard of their business.
