A POPULAR local fish and chip shop is due to be closed for “a few weeks” after a fire started last week.
Fire engines rushed to Jack’s Fish and Chip Shop, on Hilderthorpe Road, at around 6pm last Friday evening.
Three engines, two from Bridlington and another from Driffield, were called at around 5.55pm after staff noticed a fire had begun in an extractor fan.
Mandy Stirk, manager at the shop, said: “There is a bit of damage done, so it will be a few weeks before we will be open again. We’ll see how it goes.
“Thankfully, everyone in the shop got out alright and there were no injuries, as the fire had started away from the shop front.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze by around 6.10pm, then used a thermal imaging camera to ensure that the fire had not spread to anywhere else in the building.
The crew also isolated the electric and gas supply to the building, before leaving the scene after around an hour.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the fire was an accidental ignition, and that there were no injuries to staff or customers.
