A FAMILY of four had to be rescued by an RAF helicopter near Ulrome after they got cut off by the tide.

The mother, father, son, 4, and 13-year-old daughter were walking along the beach from Skipsea, at the cliffs near Ulrome Sands when they got into difficulty.

The family, from West Yorkshire, had turned and tried to head back towards Skipsea but found themselves cut off by the tide.

Humber coastguard received a call at around 2.45pm on Saturday, April 16.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Leconfield was alerted to the incident at about 2.50pm, and a coastguard rescue team and Hornsea rescue also attended the scene.

Each family member was winched to safety by the helicopter and taken to Hornsea Rescue. They suffered no injuries.
