AN APPLICATION for a wind turbine has been unanimously rejected by East Riding of Yorkshire Council this week.
The council’s Eastern Area Planning Committee turned down an application for the turbine, measuring 155ft to blade tip, at Burton Fleming Grange Farm in Burton Fleming, after representations from caravan owners at nearby Windmill Caravan Park.
Speaking on behalf of the objectors, David Hinde of No To Wolds Wind Farm Group, welcomed and commended the report of the planning officer who recommended refusal.
English Heritage also recommended the refusal of the plans, after showing particular concern to safeguard the setting of nearby Willy Howe monument.
Speaking at the committee meeting, Mr Hinde said: “The Wolds Tourist Board, VHEY in October was voted the best tourist board in the country, because of its Wolds promotion, building on its ‘Hockney Landscapes’.
“David Hockney said ‘people should stand up for themselves and say no to these things if they don’t agree with them’.
“That is what, as the people of the Wolds, we are doing.”
