Headlands students to help produce Bempton newsletter
TWO sixth formers at Headlands School have been given the chance to get a taste for community reporting and help out a local village newsletter.
Kim Brown, who is in Year 13 at Headlands, and Kenroy Rollins, who is in Year 12, will work with the Bempton newsletter team for the next year – assisting in all aspects of the producing of a newsletter.
They will gather information from around the village, write up articles, arrange the lay-out and assist in its distribution around the villages of Bempton and Buckton.
Kim, who is in her final year at the school, said: “I saw it as a really good opportunity for me.
“I intend to study English at university when I’ve done my A levels and this will help in providing me with a unique experience to put on my CV and to use my written English in the style required.”
Kenroy is particularly interested in the layout of the newsletter.
He said: “It looks like a fairly standard layout so I’m hoping we can do something a bit different.”
Kath Lord, of the Bempton newsletter, said: “We are looking forward to the addition of youth onto our team and hope we can incorporate some more items of interest to some of the younger members of the village.
“We are hoping that the students benefit from the experience as much as we will gain from their input.
“So far they have been very enthusiastic and have worked hard towards the November issue.”
The Bempton newsletter was started 18 months ago to inform people in the village about specific village events and especially to keep them updated on the current application for funding from the lottery, which passed the second stage of application in August.
Kim and Kenroy have already worked on the newsletter which is due out on November 15, and will attend the Bempton Victorian Market on Sunday, November 18 to speak to stallholders, take photographs and prepare an article for the next issue.
