PUB landlords Charlie and Louise Kilburn left the bar behind to pour their efforts into the Great North Run.
The couple, who run the Ship Inn at Sewerby, completed the 13-mile race in Newcastle within a second of each other - with Charlie coming in at 2hours 22 minutes and 59 seconds, and Louise at 2 hours 23 minutes.
They ran in aid of the RNLI, the pub’s charity of the year, and the event brought their ongoing fund-raising amount up to around £2,200.
Charlie said: “We had a great time and it was good because we ran pretty much the whole race together - though Louise wasn’t best pleased when she saw the timings!
“I did the run last year but I feel like I took in more of the atmosphere this time round and although we were a bit sore for a couple of days, it’s something I’d definitely recommend that people do.”
Charlie says that the pub will continue to support the RNLI up until the end of the year when he hopes to have reached a total of around £2,500, with the next fund-raiser planned for bonfire night.
He has already chosen his charities for next year - the British Heart Foundation and the Firefighters Charity - and is planning on taking part in the Great North Run next year dressed in full fireman’s uniform, as well as hoping to get a place for the London Marathon.
A fund-raising trip to Kilimanjaro is also in the early stages of planning.
