Distressed girl hurt in cliff plunge

A TEENAGE girl was airlifted to hospital after falling 150ft down cliffs.

A coastguard search and rescue team was called to Sewerby Cliffs at 3.30am last Friday after a report that an 18-year-old – believed to be from Bridlington – was in a distressed condition on the cliff top and threatening to harm herself.

When they arrived with police, they found the girl at the foot of the cliff in front of Sewerby cricket club’s ground, not far from Sewerby Steps, with head and leg injuries, which at the time were described as serious but not critical.

A Sea King rescue helicopter took her to Hull Royal infirmary and at the time of going to press she remained in hospital receving treatment to her injuries.
