A COUPLE celebrated 60 years of being married after meeting on holiday in Blackpool.
Harry and Jean Newell, who are both 88-years-old were married in 1952 at St Mary’s Parish Church, Beeston, Leeds on September 6, 1952.
The couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday, September 6, at Regent Residential Home, North Marine Drive, Bridlington, where they had a celebratory cake and buffet.
Born in Leeds in 1924, Harry and Jean met each other on the pier in Blackpool and their relationship formed after Harry asked Jean to dance.
Harry said: “It has been very good, we have got two smashing lads and three grandchildren.”
The couple now live in the Bridlington rest home, close to one of their sons.
Harry said the best part of their marriage was having their first child in 1953 and their second in 1957.
