A PASSWORD system is helping to crack down on bogus callers in Bridlington.
Since launching its doorstep password scheme Yorkshire Water has seen more than 7,000 customers sign-up to it.
Now the company has urged all those who have not yet signed up to take advantage of the scheme to help ensure they do not fall victim to bogus callers.
The advice follows a number of incidents in the Bridlington area where bogus callers have tried, on occasion successfully, to enter people’s properties by claiming they are from the company, to steal their possessions and money.
Matt Thompson of Yorkshire Water said: “We’re determined to do everything we can to protect our customers from the evil scourge of bogus callers operating in Yorkshire.
“That’s why we’re more keen than ever that all of our customers sign up to our free doorstep password scheme.
“It’s really easy to do and it just serves as another line of defence to help ensure you don’t fall victim to evil conmen.”
The free scheme works by enabling customers to register an agreed personal password with the company over the phone.
