Man to stand trial on assault charges

A MAN accused with assaulting two women will stand trial at Hull Crown Court after refusing to enter a plea at a hearing in Bridlington.

Shane Kevin Rugg, 32, of Little Beck Road, Bridlington, is accused of assaulting Kerry Favell and Tanya Bailey at a property in the town on May 7 this year.

Prosecuting, Jayne Wilson said: “Miss Bailey was on the phone to her mother in her bedroom at the house she was staying at, with Mr Rugg and his partner Miss Favell, and said she did not like where she was living.

“An altercation then broke out, which saw Mr Rugg punch Miss Bailey in the face and drag her into the front room, grabbed her neck, and continued to punch and kick her. When Kerry Favell tried to become involved, he pushed her away and tried to kick her to make her move.”

Vicky Lancaster, mitigating for Mr Rugg, did not have any representations to make to magistrates.

Magistrates ordered Mr Rugg to return to court on July 27, where his case will be committed to Hull Crown Court for trial.

Mr Rugg is also accused of failing to make himself available for the installation of curfew monitoring equipment when officers visited his home on March 24 and March 25.

He pleaded not guilty to this offence and will stand trial at Bridlington Magistrates Court on August 31.
