Bill Emmerson, chairman of Bridlington Cricket Club, is in Scarborough Hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car as he walked along a Bridlington road.

The incident happened around 8pm on Saturday evening as he was walking along Station Avenue.

It involved a Renault Clio car which mounted the pavement striking him before coming to a stop when it hit a lamp post. Mr Emmerson was taken to hospital with leg, arm and head injuries which police have described as serious but not thought to be life threatening.

Colleagues at the cricket club said they understood that Mr Emmerson, who had been club chairman for several years, had got off a bus from Flamborough and was walking in the direction of Kingsgate where he lives with his partner when the accident happened.

The driver of the Renault Clio was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with a road traffic offence. He was released on police bail to appear in court in February.

Anyone who witnessed this vehicle prior to the collision who has not already contacted the police should phone Humberside Police on the non emergency number 101 referring to log 560 of 10/01/2015.
