A 32 year old Bridlington man is in police custody this morning for theft, following an appeal for help yesterday in the Bridlington area.
The appeal was launched when a 73-year-old woman died after a cyclist allegedly robbed her of her handbag while she was on her mobility scooter in Bridlington.
Pamela Roddis, from Sheffield, was on holiday alone in Bridlington when her handbag, containing £300 in cash and a Nokia mobile phone, was stolen outside the Gala Club in Promenade on Saturday 26 January.
She was so shaken by the theft she cut her holiday short and returned to Sheffield the next day.
Four days later, on Thursday 30 January, Ms Roddis died of a brain haemorrhage at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.
An appeal for witnesses went out yesterday asking people to help officers identify a man shown in some CCTV footage.
A 32-year-old man handed himself in to the police this morning and is now under arrest for theft.
A police spokesman said: “Thank you everyone who contacted the police yesterday with information, it is truly appreciated.
