A 61-year-old man is in a critical condition in Scarborough Hospital after sustaining a serious brain injury outside a Bridlington pub on Saturday afternoon.

Just before 4pm on Saturday November 7, 2015, it is alleged a 61-year-old man intervened to stop a domestic assault continuing between a man and woman outside the Half Moon Pub on Prospect Street in Bridlington.

During the man’s attempts to mediate, he came into contact with the pavement and sustained a serious head injury.

An ambulance was called and the man required to be sedated before medical treatment commenced at hospital.

At 4pm in the area of the pub it was busy with many people passing by, it is thought many unaccounted witnesses may be from the Scarborough area, and Humberside Police officers investigating the incident are urging anyone who witnessed the assault to come forward.

Craig Smith, 29, of Field Road, Bridlington was charged with Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent and two counts of assault by beating against two separate people.

Glen Smith, 55, of Field Road, Bridlington was charged with Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating. Both men were transferred to Hull Magistrates Court this morning (Monday November 9, 2015).

A 31-year-old Bridlington woman was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in a public place during the incident, and following numerous warnings was arrested and later issued a penalty notice for disorder.

Anyone with information is asked to call Humberside Police on 101, quoting log number 358 of 7/11/2015.
