NEVER going to bed on an argument is the secret to a long happy marriage, according to a Bridlington couple who celebrate their 60th anniversary today.

Pat and Dennis Brown, from Queensgate, met during a dance at the Spa in 1949 and have never looked back since.

The couple are planning to celebrate their diamond wedding with a cruise around Spain and Portugal later this year.

Dennis, 79, who worked in the RAF for 25 years before working on charter fishing boats said: “For me it was love at first sight.

“We’ve had our ups and downs but we’ve always got through it.”

Former shop assistant, Pat, 80, said a bit of give and take was required in a successful marriage and having your own interests and pursuits certainly helps.

“Its good that we’re not tied to each other’s apron strings and can do our own thing sometimes.”

Pat and Dennis have had three children, Michael, Andrew and Lynda, though sadly their daughter passed away four years ago.

The couple also have five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
