Staff and friends of Field House Surgery raised £1,230 by walking 3554 miles for Help the Heros and the new Mother and Baby Clinic at the Surgery.

The group were inspired to raise money for Help the Heroes by Royal Marine Commando Alistair Gunning, who is about to embark on his third tour of Afghanistan and is married to surgery nurse Natasha Gunning.

The walkers decided to specifically walk 3554 miles because that is the distance from Bridlington to Afghanistan.

Practice Manager Alyson Ritchie said: “I’m amazed by the generosity from patients, friends and family they’ve been fantastic.”

The walk started on September 17 as staff walked 18 miles from Hull to Hornsea on the trans Pennine Way.

They then wore pedometers to record their weekly everyday mileage until their joint total was reached in December.

The pedometers, which were kindly donated by Sports Direct will now be used to encourage patients to lead healthier lifestyles and get fit.
