A SINGING event featuring four different Bridlington churches was hailed a big success after raising more than £500 for charity.

The event was held on December 22 in the Promenades Shopping Centre in Bridlington, and was part of Christian Aid’s national The Big Christmas Sing.

John Eckersley said: “We had four different Bridlington churches each singing for one hour in the Promenades Shopping Centre.

“The total raised was £547 which works out at more than £2 per minute and the money is going to two projects in the Holy Land, one on the Palestine West Bank and the other in Lebanon, helping people with disabilities. However, the project is match-funded three-to-one by the European Union, so every pound we raised releases another £3 from the EU, which trusts charities like Christian Aid to use the money honestly and effectively. In practice, we have raised over £2,000.

“Everybody says they enjoyed it so much they have asked me to book again for next year and I’d like to thank Byron Hird for allowing us to sing and all the public who gave so generously.”
