MAIL delivered to Bempton will now come from Bridlington – but staff at Bempton’s Post Office have insisted it should not affect residents.
Royal Mail announced last week that mail usually delivered from Bempton Post Office will be delivered from the Bridlington Delivery Office on Quay Road, from August 22.
However, the Post Office and shop in High Street, Bempton, will remain open as normal.
Royal Mail also confirmed that no jobs will be lost as a result of the change.
A statement from Royal Mail said: “The move of the Bempton operation, which delivers mail to customers in the YO15 1 postcode area, will provide improved working conditions, secure employment and a more cost effective operation.
“Detailed planning has been taking place in recent weeks to ensure a smooth transition for our customers and staff at Bempton.
“Royal Mail makes every effort to deliver mail to customers first time.
“If this is not possible because they are not at home, customers can arrange a redelivery free of charge.
“This service can be accessed online at www.royalmail.com or by calling the number on the card we leave.”
Martin Payne, of Bempton Post Office, said: “The same postman will deliver the items, but from a van instead of a bicycle. He said: “Some customers might have had to travel to Bridlington to pick up missed deliveries, but all of these can now be collected from Bempton again as normal.”
