Yorkshire tourism’s finest compete for top awards

After a record number of entries from across Yorkshire, the finalists in the UK’s biggest tourism awards have been announced.

The hotly anticipated shortlist for the White Rose Awards 2013 features the best Yorkshire attractions, hotels, B&Bs, campsites and venues – covering 16 categories. (FULL LIST OF FINALISTS BELOW).

The winners will be announced at a glittering black-tie awards ceremony on November 11 at New Dock Hall near the Royal Armouries, Leeds.

Last year’s glamorous ceremony attracted a sell-out of 1,000 guests, making it the biggest tourism awards in the UK.

Independent Chair of Judges, Professor Colin Mellors, said: “Strength in depth best describes our entries this year which were of a really high quality. We had to take some incredibly difficult decisions when it came to shortlisting, and that is testament to the standard of these Yorkshire tourism businesses.”

Professor Mellors is joined on the independent panel of judges by Andrew Ford, The AA Area Manager and Senior Hotel & Restaurant Inspector, food writer Elaine Lemm, and Peter Charlton, Editor of The Yorkshire Post.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Yet again we have had a record number of entries and what’s especially pleasing to see, is a lot of organisations entering this for the first time. Our diverse tourism businesses are setting the standard nationally and our awards are for them in recognition of their tireless and creative work in helping make Yorkshire number one.”

Tickets go on sale from July 2 for the event and can be purchased at www.whiteroseawards.com or by emailing info@whiteroseawards.com or call 0113 322 3500.
