Bridlington SPA REYTA Awards PA1112-13b Best Nights Sleep Award Carlton Apartments Cyndy Bell, Andrew Aldis presented the award, Andrew Bell

THE Spa and one of Bridlington’s self catering establishments have taken top tourism awards.

The Spa Bridlington won the Remarkable Business award, and The Carlton Apartments in The Crescent, close to the sea front won a Remarkable Night’s Sleep award in this year’s Real East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTA).

More than 400 people were at Bridlington Spa for last Thursday evening’s awards ceremony and saw Spa general manager Andrew Aldis accept the award, sponsored by First Hull Trains Business Travel, which recognised it as the best conference venue to meet business and tourism requirements during the past 12 months.

It had been competing over many other venues including Beverley Racecourse, The Octagon, Hull Truck Theatre, The Village and Rudstone Walk.

Mr Aldis said: “The award is testament to the amazing team at The Spa Bridlington whose hard work and dedication has made winning this award possible.

“It will be on display at the venue and members of the public will be able to see it by booking on one of our free venue tours.”

What the judges said; “The experience of holding a business event with The Spa Bridlington was described by our judge as being ‘a pleasure from start to finish. Their team are knowledgeable, pleasant to work with and full of contagious enthusiasm.’”

The other award, which will also go on display in pride of place went to Andrew and Cindy Bell of the Carlton Apartments in The Crescent.

They beat off the competition to win the Remarkable Night’s Sleep (Non-serviced) category award sponsored by The Spa.

Andrew and Cindy Bell who own and run luxury self catering apartments have worked hard to provide their unique facility close to the seafront which attracts customers Yorkshire but also London and the south of England, the Midlands, Scotland and the North.

“This award really is an honour. We did not put ourselves forward for this award, it was our guests who wrote in about us. The award itself will take pride of place in our bar,” said Andrew.

He and his wife Cindy took over a work in progress on the apartments in August 2006 and began creating seven luxury self-catering apartments.

“Cindy has been responsible for the decor and the personal touches like petals on the beds and chocolates,” said Andrew.

They have been taking guests for the past two years and offer a luxurious family room with fully equipped kitchen, one and two bedroom apartments and a romantic penthouse studio, all of which face the sea, and are serviced by a lift.

Carlton Apartments, which has a Four Star rating from Visit England, were finalists in last year’s REYTA awards.

What the judges said: “The standard of the Carlton Apartments was exceptional. They offer a fabulous product that visitors can’t help fail to be impressed by.”

Elsewhere locally, Joanne Long and David Berry of Kilham Hall Country House picked up two Remarkable East Yorkshire awards. They retained the Remarkable Night’s Sleep Award (serviced) and added a new one, the Breakfast award sponsored by Strawberry.

Joanne Long, co-owner of Kilham Hall Country House, said she was shocked to be awarded two accolades on the night.

“I was visibly shocked. We just happened to have both awards one after the other.

“I was really hoping to get the best breakfast award because it was being judged by the chief executive of Delicious Yorkshire but we hadn’t even got back to our table when it was announced we had the second award,” said Joanne who runs the business with David Berry.

Kilham Hall Country House was described by the judges as being “absolutely fabulous” and “sophisticated, charming, elegant and a haven in East Yorkshire” with the quality of their breakfast “as close to perfect as is possible.”

Organised by Visit Hull And East Yorkshire (VHEY), the REYTAs recognise the best individuals, attractions and hospitality businesses within the region’s £615 million-a-year tourism industry.
