THIRTY workers have lost their jobs after Scarborough based Woodhead the Bakers has gone into administration.
The job loses are in Scarborough but a question mark still hangs over jobs at is branches, including that in Chapel Street, Bridlington.
Administrators are seeking a buyer for the company and the redundancies are at the firm’s Scarborough factory in which supplies 30 Woodhead shops in the north including the eight stores in Scarborough. It also has branches in York, Hull, Beverley and Malton, and supplies national supermarket chain Morrisons.
The company still has 280 staff.
Rises in wheat prices and tough conditions on the high street have been blamed for the demise of the company.
Christopher White, of Sheffield based P&A Partnership who have been appointed joint administrator, said it will carry on trading the business with the hope of finding a buyer.
He said: “We believe that by continuing to trade we have the best chance of finding a buyer and we have retained as many employees as we possibly can.”
