THE BRIDLINGTON and Driffield Community Partnership will join Humberside Police in going out and about in the town to give residents information about burglary prevention.

Between 10am and 2pm on Tuesday, 31 July, people in Bridlington will be able to visit the Cop Shop on Quay Road to find out how to make their house more safe.

Inspector Grant Taylor said: “With the sun making a rare appearance, people tend to leave external doors and windows open, which makes it easy for a burglar to get into your house.

“Burglars and thieves are not master criminals, they are opportunistic. A burglar only needs to spot an open window or an unlocked side gate to make their move.

“Figures show that properties with little security are over five times more likely to be burgled than those with good security.”

Councillor Jackie Cracknell, portfolio holder for community partnerships at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “It is important to protect your home and with the tips and advice provided people can make sure they don’t make their property a target for an opportunistic burglar.”
