Bridlington man dies after being hit by four cars in Whitby

A Bridlington man died after being hit by a four cars on the outskirts of Whitby on Sunday night.

Darren Charles Stawman, 43, was hit near Mickleby on the A174, at the junction with the B1266, at 8.30pm on Sunday March 24.

Police say a grey Alfa Romeo 147 car was travelling from Staithes towards Whitby when the collision happened.

Mr Stawman, who was dressed in dark coloured clothing, was subsequently struck by three further vehicles, a grey Nissan X-trail, a black Peugeot 308 and a black Peugeot 407.

He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed and diversions put in place while police to investigated the collision scene. The stretch of road re-opened at 3.35am on Monday.

An inquest into Mr Stawman’s death is due to open and adjourn at a later date.
