A 16-year-old Bridlington man became the last person in The East Riding to join the army in 2011.
Oliver Langley, a former pupil at Headlands School swore his Oath of Allegiance at the Scarborough Army Careers Information Office to the Yorkshire Regiment as an Infantryman in December.
Oliver starts 42 weeks of training at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate from the beginning of this month, increasing his military knowledge, improving his fitness and stamina, and learning essential soldiering skills.
Oliver said: “It’s hard to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life when you are 16, But I knew I wanted a job where I get to meet lots of new people and keep my fitness up, with the opportunity to travel and progress.
“I know the training will be tough, but I’ve been working hard to maintain my fitness, to ensure I do the best that I can, so I’m really looking forward to starting the New Year in the Army. I’m going to miss my family and friends, but I’m going to make them proud.”
