BRIDLINGTON Scouts are in the running to win £500 thanks to WD40.

The 1st Bridlington Scout Troop responded to WD-40’s call in the Free Press to find the best community clean up stories, resulting in the group being in with the chance to win the cash prize.

The troop, based at the Priory Church, informed WD-40 of their extensive projects across the area, which included work with Hilderthorpe Allotment Association that saw them revive a plot of derelict land and make signs, after the area was targeted by vandals.

Scouts also worked with the Salvation Army preparing and cooking meals, organised a dog show for the local community and made pancakes for their local Allotment Association and the church, to boost their funds.

In addition, 1st Bridlington Scout Group has a long term commitment to cleaning projects across Bridlington to make the area a nicer a place to live and visit.

WD-40’s nationwide search for Scouting Troops that have used their DIY and Scouting skills to make a difference to their community was launched to celebrate their sponsorship of the DIY Scout Activity Badge and new online interactive resource that teaches DIY and safety skills.

David Butland of 1st Bridlington Scouts, said: “We are an incredibly community focused group and enjoy undertaking new challenges, especially those which benefit the local community.

“All of our Scouts love to help and are constantly completing activities in their spare time.

“1st Bridlington Scouts put a lot of time and effort into the community and the community is very grateful but if we could win the £500 from WD-40 that would be a real boost to our Scout group.”

WD-40’s brand manager, Amy Long said: “It is always great news to hear about Scouts’ positive work.

“It is pleasing to know that the DIY Scout badge is teaching them lifelong skills and the competition demonstrates how they are putting them into practice.”

Scout groups wishing to enter the competition can email WD40@connect-group.com or call 01902 714 957 to explain their clean up or community project.

All entries will receive a WD-40 goody bag for their group.
