Staff at a Bridlington building firm have donated an excellent total to the Macmillan Wolds unit at Bridlington Hospital after holding an eating contest.

Fifteen employees at Ideal Building Systems on the Carnaby Industrial Estate took part in a Man v Food style charity challenge in March.

The event, held at the Greyhound pub on Promenade and saw contestants take on a whopping 36oz beefburger, raised £728.57 for the unit.

Trevor Jennison helped organise the event and was one of the eight who finished the burger.

He said: “It was an excellent night and it was great to raise so much money for a good cause.

“I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who got involved, especially John Mainprize who finished the burger and then went for a snack later on, Paul Bradley who captained the winning quiz team, all the businesses who donated prizes to the event, Priory newsagents and Broadbent newsagents.

“Of course thanks to the Greyhound for putting on such a great evening.”

Another employee at Ideal, Mark Carr, broke the Greyhound’s record for the fastest finishing time on the night.

He ate the massive burger in 17 minutes, beating the previous record of 20 minutes and 30 seconds.
