Angela Eagle,  the former shadow business secretary, who is discussing launching a Labour leadership challenge against Jeremy Corbyn, hails from Bridlington.

The MP for Wallasey was born in the town in 1961.

Her father Andre was a printworker, married to the late Shirley.

Ms Eagle was educated at St Peter’s C of E Primary School. She later attended Formby Comprehensive High School and St Johns College, Oxford, where she was awarded with a BA(Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

She has been an active member of the Labour Party since she first joined aged 17 in 1978 and has since held various positions in the

party.

She is said to have twice refused to rule out challenging Mr Corbyn for the leadership and is understood to be scoping out colleagues about a bid.
