A 61-year-old man has died after being struck by falling masonry on Cliff Street, Bridlington today (Monday 06 October 2014) and police are supporting the man’s family.
Police were called at 1259hrs after masonry fell from the building and struck the man and a vehicle.
The ambulance service attended, but the man died as a result of his injuries and the Coroners Office has been informed.
Annette Pickering, who works at Greenwoods Menswear, said: “I heard a massive bang and thought a lorry had crashed. I ran to the door and could only see bits of debris so I didn’t think it was that serious at a first glance.”
A cordon is expected to remain in place over night, whilst further safety checks are undertaken and to ensure the public are kept safe.
The cordon and road closures have caused disruption in the area and police would like to thank the public for their patience.
The full story will be in this week’s Bridlington Free Press, out on Thursday 9 October.
