BREAKING: Driver dies after lorry leaves road

The driver of a lorry which left the road at Tesco off Hilderthorpe Road this morning has died.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “The ambulance service attended and gave first aid before transporting the driver to Scarborough Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“The circumstances of the collision and events leading to the death of the man are being investigated and anyone with information is asked to call Humberside Police on 101 quoting log number 46 of today, Tuesday 17 March 2015.”

The entrance to Tesco off Hilderthorpe Road was blocked off this morning after a lorry left the road and mounted the pavement near the petrol station.

Humberside Police closed the entrance while they tried to establish how the incident occurred.

The spokesperson added: “A Scania heavy goods vehicle collided with a road sign which may have been as a result of the driver being taken ill at the wheel.

“The ambulance service attended and gave first aid before transporting the driver to Scarborough Hospital in a serious condition.

“The vehicle has since been recovered and enquiries are ongoing with accounts being collected from witnesses at the scene.

“Any further witnesses are asked to call Humberside Police on 101 quoting log number 46 of today, Tuesday 17 March 2015.”
