The body of a pensioner from Driffield has been recovered from a beach near Bridlington.

Police were called with concerns for a 72-year-old man from Driffield who had been reported missing at 9.22pm yesterday (Tuesday June 21).

Following police enquiries the man's car was located to the Barmston area and the man was found on the beach close by. Despite the efforts of emergency services the man died.

Andy Brompton, press office at Bridlington RNLI, said the inshore lifeboat was launched to recover the mans body at 1.25 am this morning (Wednesday June 23).

It followed a search and rescue operation by the Coastguard, Humberside Police and Bridlington RNLI.

A police spokesman confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and we will be preparing a file for the coroner.
