A MILESTONE birthday has been celebrated in style by a Bridlington woman who turned 110 last Friday.
Dorothy Peel was born on September 28, 1902, the year after Queen Victoria died, and has witnessed a vast amount of social and cultural change in her extraordinarily long life.
Popping open the champagne, Mrs Peel, who was born in Alne, North Yorkshire, celebrated her birthday at Westbourne Lodge, Cardigan Road, Bridlington, where she has lived for the past nine years.
Living through two world wars, Mrs Peel survived two bombings, one of which killed her neighbours and the other led her to her future husband, who offered her shelter.
Perceived as feisty by people who know her well, Mrs Peel walks with a frame but remains as independent from care staff as possible.
