PUB landlord Gerry Ellis has certainly earned himself a drink after raising the lions share of proceeds from this year’s Flamborough Pre-School Boxing Day Dip.
It was the first time Gerry, of The Rose and Crown in Flamborough village, had done anything like it, but he joined a small band of others on Boxing Day morning to run into the freezing waters off South Landing to raise an amazing £750 in sponsorship.
Diane Villani, manager of the pre-school, which is based at St Oswald’s Church Hall, said: “Gerry brought in the biggest single amount out of what we hope will be a total of around £1,200.
He has been a star, I only approached him to see if he would put a poster up in the pub the promote the dip.”
It was the pre-school’s second annual fund raising festive dip and Gerry has already agreed to give it another go next year.
The pre-school has been around for 20 years or so. A registered charity, it is run by four committee members and three staff and the funds to help it keep going.
The money is spent on equipment and to help with overheads and this year’s dip will help pay for new outdoor play equipment for its 20 youngsters aged between two and four years.
It is open to all and operates between 9.15am and 12.15pm five days a week plus 1pm to 3pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
