Bridlington artists are joining the Priory 900 celebrations to auction off original artworks inspired by the church.
Professional artists have donated a range of pieces to raise funds for the Priory while also raising the profile of visual arts in the Bridlington area.
Corinne Young, textile artist and manager of Gallery Forty-Nine in Bridlington’s Old Town, has organised the event, alongside photographer Jean Illingworth who had the idea for the auction.
“Art and heritage are my joint passions, and this has been a perfect opportunity to combine the two.
“We’ve been delighted by the response to our appeal for donated pieces, by the generosity of the artists, and by the quality and variety of the artwork received. They have engaged with the building in such different ways,” Corinne said.
Artists who have created the pieces going under the hammer include Diane Leach, Katherine McDermid, Jarvis Grainger, and Leanne Broadbent.
‘Purchase the Priory’ takes place on Saturday May 11 at 7.30 pm. The auction will be conducted by art and antiques expert Mike Lawrence.
Tickets can be purchased on the door or at www.priory900.org, in the Priory shop, from Gallery Forty-Nine, on Market Place, or the Old Town Gallery, on High Street. Or call 07583 432163.
The pieces will be on display in the Priory from Monday May 6 and a guide will be online at www.priory900.org by the end of April.
A service at the Priory to launch the Bridlington Arts Festival will follow on Sunday May 12.
