Antiques expert and television personality Paul Hayes is making a visit to Hornsea Freeport on Monday 26th August, as part of the centre’s annual Nostalgia Event.
Established in 2010, Hornsea Freeport’s Nostalgia Event has gone from strength to strength with both footfall and sales increasing steadily each year and is designed to help shoppers relive happy times spent on the site of the shopping centre’s former resident, Hornsea Pottery.
Hornsea Freeport will once again be welcoming representatives of the Hornsea Pottery Collectors and Research Society and Hornsea Museum, who will be providing an extensive display of pottery and memorabilia from the Hornsea Pottery factory.
Paul, amongst a number of other experts, will be providing valuations and visitors will also have an opportunity to purchase items of Hornsea Pottery at the event.
Paul said: “I’ve always been a big fan of Hornsea Pottery and I fondly remember the old factory site in Lancaster. Hornsea Freeport’s past nostalgia events have produced some real finds and I’m hoping that this year won’t be any different!”
A whole host of other treats will also be on offer throughout the weekend. Visitors can look forward to watching a stunning birds of prey display, which promises to feature some spectacular hunting birds and there will also be the opportunity for individual audience members to get hands on if they’re feeling brave!
A local band will be providing the soundtrack to the weekend, playing all the old favourites from the 1950s. The weekend will also give visitors the chance to watch professional dancers perform the legendary Lindy Hop dance, as well as partnering up and giving it a go themselves should they fancy dusting off their dancing shoes.
Pottery workshops will also be held over the three days from 11am to 4pm, and visitors will be able to get involved in some pottery painting, before picking up their sandblasted piece the following weekend, as a souvenir of their time at Hornsea Freeport.
Simon Tudor, Hornsea Freeport Centre Manager, said: “People still talk about Hornsea Pottery and the attractions they enjoyed there, and following the success of our past nostalgia events, we’re keen to give the local community another chance to reminisce about days gone by and enjoy a fun family day out. From 50s music and birds of prey displays to Lindy Hopping and pottery appraisals by antiques expert Paul Hayes, we’ve got something for everyone to enjoy a great August bank holiday weekend.”
This year’s Nostalgia Event immediately follows the Fairies, Knights and Dragons extravaganza running until 23 August 2013, which will feature duelling knights, archery, face painting, competitions and jousting.
Hornsea Freeport has an extensive range of factory outlet stores offering up to 50% off brands including Thorntons, Tefal, William’s Farm Kitchen, Fresco Gourmet Coffee, Clarks and The Wedding Collection.
With places to eat and drink, children’s entertainment and its prime location close to the beach and many east coast attractions, Hornsea Freeport is an ideal destination for a great day out.
