A CLUB for over 50s in Flamborough is embarking on a major change - the first of its kind since the club began 20 years ago.
The Tuesday Group, based at the Flamborough Victoria Club on Chapel Street, is now in the hands of a new secretary and treasurer after Cath Jackson and June Major stepped down after two decades at the helm.
Taking over the two posts are new secretary Elaine Elliott and new treasurer June Parry.
The four swapped roles at a meeting of the membership, which now totals around 100, on Tuesday, and Mrs Jackson said it had been two very enjoyable decades.
She said: “We started on January 15 1991 when the Derby and Joan club asked us to take over, and the name was altered to the Tuesday Group.
“When we started we didn’t have any funds for simple things like coffee or biscuits, so we brought our own and raised funds from there.
“We go on monthly outings between April and October, but have a rest in August.
“And we have an annual dinner in January every year, at the North Star which is always nice.
“We had 42 dates to attend last year, which takes a lot of work to organise, but we have a good team of helpers - Jean Pennington, Hilary Traves, Alice Chadwick, Mary Davis and Margaret Claxton.
“Our membership all must reside in the Flamborough area, and the ages range from 50 up to 93!”
Mrs Jackson is happy someone else is now coming in to take over from herself and Mrs Major.
“Ater 20 years both June and I decided we had had enough and just wanted to be members and enjoy the meals and trips.
“We are grateful to Elaine and June for volunteering to come in and take over.
“With new people comes new ideas, so we are looking forward to a fun and relaxing time.”
