A BACK garden in Bempton attracted over 300 visitors and smashed its fundraising record at its annual open garden weekend.
The Free Press recently featured Polly and Chris Myers’ beautiful Gillus Lane garden, which has been a member of the National Gardens Scheme since 2003 and raised over £10,000 for charity since then.
This year’s open garden event was the couple’s most successful yet, with 320 visitors passing through the garden gates helping to raise an impressive £2,750 throughout the weekend.
The Myers and their band of helpers served 130 lunches, hundreds of cups of tea and coffee along with sales of cakes, plants, pots of jam and chutney and home-made soaps which all contributed to the final amount raised.
Chris described the weekend as ‘brilliant’, adding: “We were thrilled, it was our best so far.”
The couple wished to thank all involved in making the event such a huge success and said: “We would like to say a big thanks to all those who visited at the weekend and helped us raise such a huge amount, and also to the vast team of helpers from Bridlington and Bempton who served in the kitchen, sold produce and donated cakes.”
All the proceeds will go to the National Gardens Scheme charities which include Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie.
