BRITAIN'S premier cycle race will pass through Bridlington town centre later this year.
There will be a thrilling sprint competition as the Tour Of Britain passes through the resort at lunchtime on Thursday, September 11.

It is expected to bring in thousands of visitors to the town and will create national publicity as the race is be
ing shown on ITV4.

Glen Holmes, president of the Bridlington Hotel and Guest House Association, said: "I think the race will be very good for the area and it will be certainly very good for trade.

"Hopefully people will come especially for the race and decide to have a few days holiday and stay over.

"It's the kind of thing we want in the town and hopefully it will be good weather."

The cyclists are expected to arrive in Bridlington at around 12.45pm, they will enter the town on the A165, then along Kingsgate, right on to Hilderthorpe Road and then left down Beck Hill and straight ahead along Chapel Street.

They will head out of town on Promenade then on to Flamborough Road, Fortyfoot and left to Marton Road.

At the junction with Bempton Lane they turn right and go through Bempton and Buckton before joining the B1229 to Filey.

David Andrews, chief executive of Yorkshire Tourist Board said: "The Tour of Britain is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the wonderful landscapes and cityscapes of Yorkshire to a global audience.

The route for the Yorkshire leg of the race, on day five, starts in Hull and heads to Barton-upon-Humber, South Ferriby, Beverley, Hornsea and Bridlington

The teams will then continue up the coast to Filey and Scarborough and pass the finish line in Dalby Forest.

Tour spokesman Paul Rowlands said: "The stage has the potential to be one of the most decisive in our eight-day race and the new finish in Dalby Forest is certain to provide a worthy winner."

Bridlington has hosted big national cycle races in the past.

The Milk race passed through for three consecutive years in the late 1980s and early 1990s and attracted thousands of spectators.
