A PENSIONER had her purse stolen from her handbag as she sat outside the Peacocks store on Chapel Street in Bridlington town centre.
The 93-year-old woman was sitting on a bench with her handbag on the floor beside her, when a man described as being 6ft tall and wearing dark clothing reached inside the bag and stole a blue fabric purse before running off in the direction of King Street.

A member of the public gave chase, but the offender managed to escape with the purse which contained £5 worth of coins and an East Riding bus pass.

The theft happened at about 2.35pm last Monday, and police are seeking witnesses.

Officers specifically want to trace the member of public who tried to stop the thief and anyone with information is asked to contact Humberside Police on 0845 6060222 referring to log 393 of July 19.

Police also reminded members of the public of the need to keep their personal possessions safe while out and about.
