yWHAT happens to a petition when it disappears behind the famous black door of 10 Downing Street?
Some cynics have suggested Gordon Brown has a big skip in the back yard to 'store' them.
But the people of Bridlington can rest assured that the 38,000 signatures which were taken to the Prime Minister in London last week do not just get cast aside.
A Downing Street spokesman told the Free Press: "Once we have received a petition, it will be answered by us or given to the relevant Government department, in this case the department of Health, which will be given time to send a written reply."
He said that the petition was 'quite sizeable' compared to many which pass through Downing Street and said organisers should expect to recive their response in around a month.
