VISITORS from the French town of Millau were welcomed to Bridlington by a special guest as the town's Mayor Tony Padwick joined them for tea.
Coun Padwick and his wife Janet greeted the French visitors at the Pavilion bar.

Around 50 French people visited Bridlington as part of the Bridlington Twinning Association's programme which hosts annual exchanges.

The visit of our friends from Millau was a brilliant success and a huge thank you must go to all the hosting families for their hospitality, friendship and patience during the week.

We were lucky enough to be shown the sun when we needed to be outdoors, so the welcome party at Bempton, Bastille Day parade, Beverley Races and even the walk and Petanque gave us enough sun to think it was summer.

Big thanks too to John and Angela Foster of Field House for putting on the magnificent barn dance on the evening of Bastille Day.

We are also grateful to all committee members and friends who always go the extra mile to get things organised and make sure our Millau friends go home with lots of happy memories of Bridlington.

Our thoughts turn to 2009 and our visit to Millau and although the end of May has been suggested there are some difficulties with this date that will need to be ironed out before we can confirm.

We are also looking forward to the September Quiz night on Thursday, September 25 at the Yacht Club opposite the Spa.

Teams of four to include a chilli and rice supper (with vegetarian option too), all for £5 per person. £25 goes to the winning team and there will be a raffle and lots of other prizes. Start time is 7.30pm for an 8pm first round. If you would like to have a team, please contact Barbara or Chris to book your places.

You are also welcome to come along to Chris and Polly's open garden at 8 Gillus Lane, Bempton, for the National Garden Scheme this Saturday and Sunday August from 10am to 4pm on both days.

All funds raised go to NGS charities including Macmillan and Marie Curie. You can even come for lunch on either day as we serve food and drinks throughout the day.

There will be an exhibition of fabulous artwork too by Rosemary Abrahams. Entry £2.50 per adult, children free.
