ONE of the biggest turnouts seen at the town's war memorial in recent years gathered to pay their respect
Starting with a parade, which left the town hall accompanied by the Children Of The Mist pipe band, the ceremony was continued at the war memorial in Prospect Street and was conducted by Rev Jonathan Coupar.
Barry Moody MBE, president of Bridlington's Royal British Legion, was unable to attend the service because he was in London, however he said he had heard the attendance was impressive.
Mr Moody said: "There has certainly not been a decrease in interest, especially with the overseas commitments and there was an excellent turnout in London as always."
The neglected memorial was also given a clean in time for Sunday and although it will require more work to get it looking its best Mr Moody said he has been assured that will happen in the near future.
The Remembrance commemorations drew to a close on Monday morning when pupils from Quay Primary School laid their own wreaths.
Mr Moody added: "For the past two or three years, pupils at Quay have actually produced their own small wreath and laid it and checked the names on the memorial to see if they could find anyone who shared the same surname."
Bridlington School Sports College also held its annual Remembrance service in the school's main hall followed by prayers and wreath laying ceremony in the old school hall, which is now the Library.
More than 200 year 11 and year 13 students, the Combined Cadet Force, school council, together with staff, Old Bridlingtonians and guests participated in the service.
Stuart Atkinson, assistant headteacher, said: "The service remembered all those who have lost their lives in the various conflicts since the Great War and in particular the 166 ex-students and teachers who lost their lives."
This year the reading was given by Dr Bob Duerden, chair of the Interim Executive Board, and the address was given by Kerrigan Redman a former headteacher of the school.
