AFTER hearing Bridlington's Citizen Advice Bureau was facing a funding crisis, a Bridlington newsagent decided to help.
Kay Williams of Quay News, in Quay Road, donated £250 which was raised through a raffle and a stall.

Gabby Parsons donated a 4ft bear which was raffled and raised £150 and Mrs Williams then sold books and DVDs and this raised £100.

Sadly the do
nation is not enough to prevent the Bureau having to severely trim its debt advice and welfare rights services. Yvonne Kurvits, bureau manager, said: "We have until the end of the month before we have to make three staff redundant who are working in this area, which has overtaken benefit claims as the largest portion of its work."

The funding crisis has been caused by the loss of a major backer, the Legal Services Commission, which has withdrawn its grant aid after two years. The Bureau handled 641 debt cases during the past year and still has more than 400 live cases. The bureau's other services will be unaffected by the cuts. Anyone who can help with funding or a donation should contact the bureau on 605644.
