BRIDLINGTON has a starring role in a new short film, which it is hoped will taste success at international festivals.
The team behind comedy drama Hammerhead will be in the town over the next week, filming at a number of locations.

It is the story of a shark-obsessed 11-year-old boy called Boris who is trying to to get his estranged parents back together.

Prod
ucer Prakash Patel said: "We are funded by Screen Yorkshire so we want to keep the story in Yorkshire.

"We will be filming at the Deep in Hull but we needed somewhere at the seaside too.

"We went to Scarborough and Filey to look at locations but we just fell in love with Bridlington because it is just beautiful to look at.

"We've received amazing support from the Bridlington Regeneration Department, the Promenades team, the council, South Cliff Caravan Park and a lot of other Bridlington people with much of the film.

"We will be shooting for about five days from Sunday and after that we need to take it into the editing room. Hopefully everything should be finished by the end of September."

The production team will then submit the film, which will be about 13 minutes long and stars actress Antonia Campbell Hughes from BBC2 comedy Lead Balloon, to festivals around the world.

Mr Patel added: "The story is a comedy drama in the vein of Little Miss Sunshine and we expect it to perform well in film festivals in the UK and abroad and will provide good publicity to the town of Bridlington."

The crew now need to finalise a few details for some of the props and have asked for help from people in Bridlington.

"We're looking for a fish tank that we could borrow for two days.

"We would return it in the same condition so if anyone would like their fishtank featured in an aquarium, we'd love them to get in touch," said Mr Patel, from Gambit Productions in Shipley.

He added: "We're also on the look out for some vehicles so again if any readers would like their vehicle featured in the film, that would be great.

"We need an MG for one afternoon or early evening at the Deep for a backdrop) and also a car that has a timeless feel as long as it's an 'automatic' rather than a 'manual' that can be driven on the Humber Bridge and parked on North Bay for two weekdays.
