PAGER's fight

BEHIND the scenes, pensioners' group PAGER is playing its part in the hospital fight.
Representatives met shadow health secretary Andrew Lansley during his visit to Bridlington earlier this month.

They handed over a written report on the historic problems at the hospital, caused, they say, by a 'lack of investment by Scarborough Tr
ust'

Secretary Jean Wormwell MBE said: "At a meeting of the Bridlington Health Forum we were informed that the East Yorkshire Primary Care Trust have allowed in their budget for the cost of two ambulances and

paramedic crews to take patients to Scarborough in case the decision is eventually made to close the unit.

"We also met with Lynn Young, who has been appointed by the Strategic Health Authority to reconfigure the services at Bridlington and Scarborough hospitals.

"It would appear there is no firm commitment for from the Trust in this respect.

"It is very disappointing that Alan Johnson will not visit the hospital and talk to the staff."
